This is a prototype demountable “clip-on” technology classroom for use throughout the London Borough of Camden.
The classroom is delivered to a school on the back of a lorry; raises itself off the lorry; lowers itself once the lorry has departed; and then expands to its operating width. A side door lowers to provide a stage. It is designed to adapt and change to suit future requirements and is robust in both technology and form.
“A literal and metaphorical vehicle for learning, disseminating new technology and stimulating learning across the borough – container for ideas- wirefree, web and satellite connected, linking easily to the resources of local, UK and worldwide institutions”.
The structure comprises a hybrid steel chassis and space frame. Hydraulic actuators were used to operate the moving parts.
