Mount Carmel Catholic College for Girls

This two-storey extension accommodates technology learning and meeting spaces.

Groundworks were complicated by the presence of a major Thames Water (TW) sewer beneath the site. The sewer could not be diverted for economical and operational reasons. We negotiated successfully with TW to allow the building to bridge over the sewer.

The building has piled foundations with a steel framed superstructure. The resonant frequency of the floors had to be carefully tuned to see that machinery vibration was not problematic.
